Step 1: Buy a Book
Books can be purchased at the Magical Bookshop in Neopia Central or from various other bookshops across Neopia. Books can also be earned from dailies and events. Check out a handy list of bookshops on JN!
Step 2: Read the Book to Your Pet
Once you have a book in your inventory, click on it. In the drop-down menu, choose the pet you wish to read to, then submit. If the pet doesn’t refuse to read the book (more details in the “Refusing to Read” section), the book will disappear in a puff of colorful smoke, and your pet’s intelligence will increase.

Loyal User Perks
Once your account reaches 24 months or older, you unlock a special perk. After reading a book to your pet, there’s a small chance it will remain in your inventory. This means you can read it again to a different pet or even sell it, keep it, or gift it to a friend!
