Transmogrification might sound like a complicated term, but in Neopets, it simply refers to the process of turning your pet into a mutant. Since there is no Mutant Paint Brush available, your only options for transforming a Neopet into a mutant are the Lab Ray, the Fountain Faerie Quest (FFQ), or Transmogrification Potions.

Transmogrification Potions, often called “Trans Potions,” come in a variety of species and are named according to the pet species you want to transform into. For example, if you want a mutant Hissi, you would need a Hissi Transmogrification Potion. These potions are typically very rare and can be obtained from Dr. Sloth during special random events, or alternatively, you can purchase them from other players via the Shop Wizard, Trading Post, or Auctions.

Once used, a Transmogrification Potion will turn any pet into a mutant of the specified species. So, if you used a Hissi Transmogrification Potion on a different species, that pet would become a mutant Hissi. Afterward, your new mutant pet can still be painted in any available color—like Baby, for example—using the appropriate Paint Brush. However, the species will remain the same unless you use another Transmogrification Potion.

These potions are single-use, so once you use one, it disappears from your inventory. To use a potion, simply click on it in your inventory.

Additionally, using a Transmogrification Potion is how you can unlock a special avatar.
