Neopet Extreme Herder is a fun game where you will have to dodge Balthazar, the predator from eating the petpets. Your main objectif, as Samrin the Kacheek, will be to take them and to bring them through safety so that Balthazor can’t eat them. Neopet Extreme Herder will give you the opportunity to learn tricks about how to fool Balthazar for your own advantage.

Gameplay

Your main objective will be to herd all the petpets that are located on the screen to their pen so that you can complete the current level, and to get to the next one. At the beginning of the game, you will be able to notice that there is a total of four different doors on each side from where you will be able to deposit petpets into the pen. Also, there will be a total of 4 teleporters that can be found through each side of the screen to make you navigate easily and smoothly through the screen. However, as the levels goes further, the portals will start diminishing at the rate of 1-2 per level, and then will come the turn of the doors of the pen. By the eighth level, no more portals will be available to you. By level 11, only one door will be left, which will make the game incredibly difficult.

This game does not have time set, so you may think that you will take your time. Note that should not do that. The reason behind that is because Balthazar will not be taking breaks, so that he will continue moving and eating the petpets. The number of the petpets will be increasing the further you progress. A total of three lives will be given to you at the start of the game, and there is no way to increase them. If Balthazar manages to eat you or a petpet, you will be losing a life. It will be game over if you lose all of them.

Controls

The controls are very simply. Use the arrow keys that are located on your keyboard to move Samrin, and to pick up the petpets in order to bring them to safety. You will be able to pick them up by simply moving on them. You will be able to drop the petpet by using the space bar if you feel that Balthazar is a treat to another one. If that’s the case, simply drop the current one and go forward the other petpet to bring it to safety. You will not be able to pick up more than one petpet at once, so you will have to drop the current one you’re holding (if you’re holding any) or to bring it to the pen by the door. Through the first levels, you will be able to move through the portals to get to another spot the quickest way.

During the game of Neopet Extreme Herder, a total of two powerups will be offered for you to use. The first one is an orange circle that will give Samrin the ability to speed up and move faster temporarily.

The second powerup is the Icy snowflake in blue that will freeze Balthazar for a short amount of time and it will let you save the petpets if he’s near them. However, it doesn’t last a lot, so you may want to hurry up if you grab it.

Score & Points

Every petpet you successfully bring to the pen will reward you with one point. If there is a petpet with a gold start on them, they will be worth more points so it may be a good choice to bring them to safety first, in case Balthazar eats them. For the earlier levels, you will be given a save-all bonus which are points for successfully saving all of the petpets that are on the current level. If you manage to get to the sixth level, you will notice that this bonus will be no longer awarded, thus giving you a harder time earning points. If you’re going after a super high score or after a trophy you will have to set up an excellent strategy or to follow our guide to succeed. This game will also award you with the Extreme Herder avatar if you manage to get 250 points, at least.

For the sixth level, the number of petpets that will be available in the game for you to bring is seven. The number of total doors will be four and the number of portals will be two, where the bottom one will be gone.

For the seventh level, the number of petpets that will be available in the game for you to bring is seven. The number of total doors will be four and the number of portals will be one, where the left one will be gone.

For the eighth level, the number of petpets that will be available in the game for you to bring is seven. The number of total doors will be four and the number of portals will be zero, where the right one will be gone.

For the ninth level, the number of petpets that will be available in the game for you to bring is seven. The number of total doors will be three, whereas the top one will be gone, and the number of portals will be zero.

For the tenth level, the number of petpets that will be available in the game for you to bring is seven. The number of total doors will be two, whereas the bottom one is gone, and the number of portals will be zero.

For the eleventh level, the number of petpets that will be available in the game for you to bring is seven. The number of total doors will be one, whereas right one is gone, and the number of portals will be zero.

For the twelfth level and more, the number of petpets that will be available in the game for you to bring is seven. The number of total doors will be one, whereas the only one that will remain is the door on the left side, and the number of portals will be zero.

Neopets Extreme Herder Strategy & Cheats

First of all, there is few tips that you should consider keeping in mind so that you can be successful while playing Neopets Extreme Herder.

Never go out of your way by changing your current direction for the powerups. If you’re going after a petpet and you know that there will be no problem, simply grab it and bring it back to the pen. There will be no reason to go after a powerup if you’re safe enough, so why bother? Another thing to keep in mind is that the speed powerup will make you go faster and it be hard for some people to manipulate Samrin if it is the first time they’re playing, and haven’t played enough to manage to successfully give him the right directions.

Never forget, for the first rounds, to use the teleporters because they will get you to the place you want way faster. Some people, though, prefer to not use them to start practicing themselves for the next levels, because from there they will be able to feel more confident for the future levels.

The game does not have the option to pause it. If you have the urge need to go to the bathroom, or to somewhere else though, simply bring all of the petpets to the pen and grab the last one but don’t bring it to safety. Instead, keep holding him and you will see that balthazar will go to the upper left corner and start becoming crazy. This way, you can leave your computer for as long as you want and come back later when you have the time.

You will be able to type freeze during the game, once per game to receive the Icy Snowflake that will freeze Balthazar for a while. However, think for a while. You will waste time typing this to freeze balthazar for roughly 2 seconds. It is almost not effective. Unless you’re a very fast typer, then this cheat is not recommended for you.

Strategy

Every time you will start a new level, you will have to make sure that you are near the upper left corner from where Balthazar will always come. Many of the times you will find petpets there and you will have to bring them to safety before Balthazar eats them, let alone the other petpets for now. If that side of the screen is empty, simply go after the other petpets.

If Balthazar is about to eat a petpet, and you know he will eat it because there is no power up and you don’t have enough time to type the freeze cheat code, simply run to him and sacrifice yourself. The reason is that you do not want to lose points when he decides to eat a petpet, and also because the game will reset making him distant from the remaining few petpets.

If he is going after a petpet, you can try to fool him. By that, it means that you can drop petpets on the ground to make him decide to change his direction. From there you will be able to bring the nearest-to-him petpets to the pen, then you will be able to continue fooling him until all of the petpets are secure. This is recommended in the later levels, of level 11 and above simply because there will be only one door of the pen remaining.

There is no secret. Actually, all you will have to do is play the most you can to get better at the game. Remember that the more you play, the better you will become and the more tactics you will learn by simply dodging Balthazar. Some people are known to have reached more than three thousands points simply because they were good at the game. Once you learn the tactics, then you will be able to advance further infinitely, thus getting a better spot on the high score table. If you’re going after a trophy, the score board will reset on the first day of every month and it will be a great idea to play then simply because there will be less people on it. If you feel confident enough and you know that you master the game, then you will be able to get the golden trophy or become at the top of the HST every time you play, simply because you can.
