NC Gift Boxes and Gift Box Capsules Guide

In November 2008, Neopets released NC-related “gift boxes” that (finally!) made it possible to send NC wearables to other users and side accounts. Gift boxes have now become a means of currency in NC trading.

mall_giftbox_basic-5946249A classic Basic Gift Box.

WHAT ARE GIFT BOXES AND GIFT BOX CAPSULES?

  • Gift boxes are the single, plain boxes (like the one pictured above) that you need to move items. You use these to send NC items from one account to another.
  • Super Gift Boxes are special gift boxes that were released in Winter 2010. Users could receive them from the holiday GBC and use them to send 4 items at once. They have not since been released.
  • Gift box capsules (GBCs) are items that can be opened to reveal one NC item and 2 – 5 Basic Gift Boxes.

HOW TO GET GIFT BOXES

There are currently quite a few ways in which you can find or purchase gift boxes!

  • When you redeem a physical Neocash card, you will receive a certain amount of gift boxes depending on how much the card is worth. For every $5 that you redeem, you will receive one gift box. This means that if you redeem a $10 card, you will receive two gift boxes; if you redeem a $25 card, you will receive five gift boxes. These cards can be found at specific WalMart and Target locations, among other places.
NOTE: You will not receive gift boxes when purchasing Neocash online through the NC Mall — only when redeeming a physical Neocash card.
  • For one week every month (generally the last week), you can find gift box capsules in the NC Mall for 200 NC each. Gift box capsules, very commonly referred to as GBCs, contain one buyable Neocash item (meaning the item inside is available for purchase separately) and between two to five gift boxes. The number of boxes inside is completely random, but receiving two is the most common. You can choose to open the GBC in order to receive the item and boxes, or you can leave it closed as a collectable, an item to trade, or just something pretty to look at!

mall_mc_halloweengb2-9457847Look at all that sparkle.

  • One of TNT’s most recent projects has been a daily called Trudy’s Surprise, which is a slot machine that appears at the top of users’ screen every 24 hours. You have the chance to randomly win one Basic Gift Box every day when you play. Whether or not any icons match is not a factor; receiving a gift box is completely random.

GIFT WRAP

Sometimes you will see something being sold in the NC Mall that looks like a very pretty gift box. Be careful! Gift boxes are not ever sold individually. What you are looking at is a set of gift wrap with which to dress up your Basic Gift Boxes.

mall_giftwrap_prettynegg-2020148Wouldn’t you be happy to receive this?!

You’ll need a Basic Gift Box in your inventory or Safety Deposit Box in order to purchase gift wrap. Once you buy it, one of your gift boxes will automatically be wrapped, so you don’t need to activate the item. If the box that is wrapped is in your SDB, it will be moved to your inventory after being wrapped.

Gift wrap is generally season or related to an event, meaning it cannot be found year-round in the NC Mall. It can rarely be awarded when opening a Gift Box Capsule.

SENDING & RECEIVING ITEMS WITH GIFT BOXES

Sending items

Sending items with gift boxes is relatively easy.

  1. First, you need to make sure you have the gift box and the item that you would like to send in your inventory.
  2. Next, select the gift box.
  3. The scroll down menu will only show the NC items in your inventory. Select the one that you would like to send to another account.
  4. You will then be asked to type in the name of the account you would like to send the item to. It is very important that you spell the username correctly. You will be asked to verify if the account you entered, but you still want to be very careful since this is real money on the line!
  5. You can select a message to send along with the item, such as “Hope you like it!” and “Congratulations!” This part is optional.
  6. Finally, you will be taken to the last screen in which you will type in your account password and verify that you would like to send the item to the account that you entered. This is your chance to double check the item you are sending and your spelling of the account’s name.
  7. Send your item!

NOTE: The receiving and sending of NC items is available in the following languages: English, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, French, and German. If you are using another language, you will not be able to accept/decline an NC item when it is sent to you, and you will need to change the site’s language (at the bottom of the page) to do so.

Items that cannot be sent

Certain items cannot be sent with gift boxes, including:

Mis-typing usernames, M.I.A. users, etc: Getting your item back

Sometimes gifting or trading doesn’t go quite as planned. Whether the person you want to send an item to is not accepting the item you’ve sent them or you accidentally sent an item to an inactive/non-existent account, don’t fret! Your item is not lost forever! After 48 hours of your item sitting in limbo, it will be returned to your inventory. The same goes for when someone sends back an item you have sent them. In both cases, you will also receive back the gift box you used to send the item.

You will always receive a neomail within 48 hours from TNT letting you know whether a user had accepted your item, sent it back, or done neither (in which the item has been returned to your inventory).

TRADING NC WITH GBCs

It is completely “legal” to trade NC items for other NC items between users. This is generally done on the NC Mall neoboard. The “currency” for NC trading is Gift Box Capsules, which are valued at 200 NC (because this is what they sell for in the NC Mall). Other items also have NC value, but these values are based on popularity, rarity, availability, among other things.

So, for example, when an item is valued at roughly 800 NC, someone might say that it is worth 4 “caps,” since 200 NC x 4 = 800 NC. Therefore someone with an NC item valued at 800 NC who is seeking Gift Box Capsules would likely be interested in receiving four GBCs in exchange for their item, in a fair trade. Yes, it is okay to trade multiple NC items for a single NC item and vice-versa.

There are many guides and value guides, this being the (by far) most popular and circulated. Remember, value guides are suggested and based on limited collected data — they are not law! As long as a trader and tradee are aware of the supposed values of the items and agree to a trade, it is legal. Attempting to trade with someone who does not understand values with the intent of “getting a good deal” on an item is considered scamming, and this is a freezable offense.

If you do not know the value of your retired Gift Box Capsule or item, you can also do a price check on the NC Mall chat.

NOTES

  • You can not ever trade NC items for neopoint items, pets, or anything else that is not also an NC item. Do not use gift boxes to send NC items to users in exchange for anything besides other NC items.
  • You are allowed to purchase or redeem NC on a side account, and you may buy GBCs on your side accounts. Moving NC between your accounts to dress up your pets is completely legal — and you need gift boxes to do it!
  • You can PIN protect the use of gift boxes in your PIN Preferences.
  • Gift boxes, like other NC items, do not expire.
  • Very, very occasionally, Basic Gift Boxes will be given out in the NC Mall for free. They will simply appear on the homepage with the word “FREE” underneath and you can redeem one on your main and side accounts.
  • Sometimes, Basic Gift Boxes will be given out in association with events such as Stocking Stufftacular and 13 Days of Trick or Treat.

Styling Studio Restyle Paint

The Styling Studio Restyle Paint, introduced in May 2025, is a NeoCash (NC) item in Neopets that allows players to recycle three NC Style items in exchange for up to three random rewards, which may include NC Pet Styles, NC items, and exclusive style items. This feature is part of the broader Styling Studio, which offers various customization options for Neopets.

Styling Studio Restyle Paint

🎨 How It Works

  1. Acquire the Item: Purchase the Styling Studio Restyle Paint from the NC Mall for 300 NC.
  2. Access the Styling Studio: Navigate to the Styling Studio and select the “Restyle” tab.
  3. Select Items to Restyle: Choose three NC Style items from your inventory to recycle.
  4. Receive Rewards: Upon restyling, you’ll receive up to three random rewards, which can include NC Pet Styles, NC items, and exclusive style items.
  5. Style Meter Progress: Each restyle grants one point on your Style Meter. Accumulating 15 points allows you to select a guaranteed exclusive NPC-inspired style.

🌈 Exclusive Styles

  • NPC-Inspired Styles: These are unique styles based on popular Neopian characters. They have a low drop rate but are guaranteed after 15 restyles.
  • Royal Prismatic Styles: Available in Prismatic Dawn, Dusk, and Mirage variants, these styles offer fresh, bold palettes for your Neopets.

A Closer Look: The Restyle Paint Experience and Community Concerns

Digging deeper, thanks largely to the diligent Neopets Reddit community, it’s clear that this feature isn’t as friendly as it seems. Several Reddit threads have painstakingly analyzed the math behind the Restyle Paint system—and the results are far from favorable. In fact, many players consider it downright predatory.

Here’s a simplified breakdown for those who want to avoid venturing into the depths of Reddit:

  • You feed in three Styling Studio tokens (the Restyle Paints) each time.
  • You receive 1 to 3 random Studio rewards, which might be common styles, rare styles, or special items.
  • To get an exclusive NPC-inspired style (the rarest rewards), you must repeat this process fifteen times.

This means a lot of investment—both in time and NeoCash—for a shot at the exclusive styles. The system operates as a classic gacha mechanic, where the odds are hidden and heavily stacked against the player.

Though initially the odds weren’t publicly disclosed, they were later revealed in the official FAQ, and unsurprisingly, they’re discouraging:

  • NPC style drop chance: 1%
  • DSSS (special style): 1%
  • Getting exactly 1 style: 19.6% (with a 10% chance for a bonus prismatic brush or special style)
  • Getting 2 styles: 39.2% (with a 20% chance for a bonus prismatic brush)
  • Getting 3 styles: 39.2%

When you do the math, depending on whether you buy Restyle Paints individually or in bundles, it could cost anywhere from $210 to $675 just to acquire one exclusive style after completing the fifteen restyles required. For many, this price tag is simply prohibitive, especially considering the low odds and randomized nature of the rewards.

This reality has sparked significant discussion within the community about fairness and value, highlighting concerns that the Restyle Paint system feels more like a gamble than a fun feature—prompting some players to question the direction of Neopets’ monetization strategies.

💡 Tips for Users

  • Item Selection: Ensure you’re selecting NC Style items that you’re willing to part with, as they will be consumed in the process.
  • Style Meter Strategy: To obtain exclusive NPC-inspired styles, plan for at least 15 restyles to guarantee your desired style.
  • Bundles for Savings: Consider purchasing the 5-bundle or 10-bundle options, which offer bonus Restyle Paints, providing better value.

The Styling Studio Restyle Paint offers a dynamic way to refresh your Neopets’ appearance, providing opportunities to obtain rare and exclusive styles through a fun and engaging process. Whether you’re aiming for a specific look or exploring new customization options, this feature adds depth to the Neopets experience.

Mysterious Morphing Experiments MME Guide

Mysterious Morphing Experiments are NC items that morph into other NC items…what?! That’s right! These mysterious items grant buyers multiple items for a great price, but under some spooky conditions.

Mysterious Morphing ExperimentsNeopets MME

WHAT ARE Mysterious Morphing Experiment EXACTLY?

To put it simply: MMEs are limited-time items that you purchase in the NC Mall (for real money) that morph into different items over the course of a few days, and the result is a set of items that you get to keep. There are MMEs and Mini-MMEs, and the latter has fewer stages of transformation and is therefore cheaper.

Actually, it’s more complicated than that, but you get the jist of the jist, right? Let’s go into more detail.

FINDING AND PURCHASING MMEs & MiniMMEs

MMEs are not always available. They are limited-time items that appear in the NC Mall for about a week:

ncmall_mysterious_morphing2-9792156

mall_minimme10_genielampques-4756546

Apart from the fact they have the MME acronym at the beginning of the item name (ex. MME2: Mystical Rain Shower), they can also be identified by the question mark at the bottom right-hand corner of the image, as seen in the examples above.

  • MMEs: 600 – 800 NC
  • MiniMMEs: 300 – 350 NC

THE MME MORPHING BEGINS

While MMEs are still available in the NC Mall, they will not morph. This gives everyone equal playing field as to the randomness of the morphs they do receive.

This is where things start to get complicated. Heh.

After the MME retires from the NC Mall, the items will begin morphing. All MMEs that you have purchased from the same sale morph at the same time, and the items morph no matter where they are in your game: in your inventory, in your gallery, in your Safety Deposit Box, in your closet, or even on your pet! These periods of morphing are called stages. The first time your item morphs, it moves from stage 1 to stage 2. The stage your item is in can be indicated in the name:

  1. MME2-S1: Mystical Rain Shower = Mysterious Morphing Experiment 2 – Stage 1: Name of the item
  2. MME2-S2: Glowing Light Lagoon = Mysterious Morphing Experiment 2 – Stage 2: Name of the item
  3. MME2-S3: Puddle with Golden Fish Tail = Mysterious Morphing Experiment 2 – Stage 3: Name of the itme

There are sometimes different items that come from different stages. In the example of the Frozen-inspired MME2o: Ice Palace Background, there are two items that come from stage 2:

mall_mme20_wintergown-6597348MME20-S2a: Winter Princess Gown mall_mme20_northerngown-4645473MME20-S2b: Northern Princess Gown

The former is considered the first strain of stage 2, so it’s considered MME20-S2a, whereas the latter is considered MME20-S2b. While it may seem completely random which items you will receive from each stage, there is actually a way to predict which items you will receive from the MME that you have purchased.

▻ Predicting your MME items:

Users have discovered a way to predict which items you will receive from the MME in your shopping cart at the NC Mall. We’ll continue to use the Ice Palace MME as our example. If you want to get the first dress in stage 2 (*cough* Elsa’s dress *cough*), you need to know that you’re looking for MME20-S2a, as explained above.

  1. First, go to the NC Mall and put multiple MME20s in your shopping cart.
  2. View your shopping cart.
  3. Highlight all of the text underneath “Neopets items,” being sure to highlight the names of the items.
  4. Here, you’ll need to inspect the element of the page.
    1. Chrome: right click, select “Inspect Element”
    2. Firefox: right click, select “View Selection Source”
    3. Internet Explorer 8: right click, select “View Selected Source”
  5. You are specifically looking for the part of the code that reads: <img id=”XXXXX” class=”toggle_img”…>
  6. The XXXXX is the “ID” of the item and will tell you if you will receive 2a or 2b, or 5a or 5b, etc.
  7. Delete the items in your shopping cart that do not correspond with the items you want. They will be in the same order in your cart as they were in the code.

WHEN THE MORPHING ENDS

After a certain number of days, your item will reach its final stage and effectively stop morphing. It is meant to be a surprise how many times each MME will morph. Of the ones released, MMEs go through 3-5 stages so far. You will know for certain that the morphing period has ended because the item will no longer have a question mark on the bottom right-hand corner of the image.

Once the item is no longer morphing, all of its previous forms will appear as separate items in your inventory! That’s right — you get to keep everything that it has evolved into. MiniMMEs generally go through only a single morph and award 2 items whereas you can receive up to 5 items from regular MMEs. There is always the possibility of getting a bonus item, and there is a specific bonus item for each individual MME and MiniMME. These are completely random and cannot be predicted.

PAST MMEs AND MiniMMEs

Currently, there are no MMEs and MiniMMEs in the NC Mall. To see past prizes, go here.

These items are retired and very often of high demand due to the fact that they are cohesive sets and because they were available for such a limited time.

NOTES

  • If you gift an MME to a friend while it is morphing, they will receive all of the items that the MME has morphed into once morphing is over, even if they didn’t own the MME until its later stages.

Delina’s Crafting Quests Guide

The newest quest-giver to join the Faerieland bunch is Delina, the Crafting Faerie. She requires cheap NC items from the mall and gives you NC wearables in return for doing her Delina Quests.

DELINA'S QUEST

ACTIVE DELINA QUESTS

Like the other faeries, Delina’s Quests requires items in order to grant you her faerie blessing. Uniquely, Delina requires not one, but two items! Both are available in the NC Mall and Faerie Quest Shop. She always asks for two items that amount to a total worth of 150 NC. Depending on the items she requests, there are corresponding prizes.

To complete Delina’s quest, simply purchase the items she requests and return to the quests page.
You also have the option of canceling the quest at no penalty, which you can also do on the quests page.

While the older items are available to purchase, the current crafting quests (using the above items) give the following prizes:

Neopets Patapult Guide

Patapult is one of the many active games in the NC Mall! Patapult is a Neocash game, meaning it cannot be played with neopoints and can be played on side accounts. Users buy Patapuff packs from the NC Mall and can then play the skeeball game and earn exclusive wearable prizes!

Patapult

GETTING STARTED — PATAPUFFS

In order to play Patapult, you must buy a Patapuff pack. Patapuffs are sold in the NC Mall and can be purchased in three different quantities:

As you can see, Patapuff packs can be purchased individually or in packs of 5 or 10. Buying larger packs decreases the amount of an individual Patapuff and is essentially a better deal. If you plan to play multiple times for a specific prize, consider buying one of the larger packs to save money!

Unlike other NC Mall games like Shenanigifts and Wonderclaw, there are no Power-Ups in Patapult.

PLAYING PATAPULT

To start the game, go to the homepage and click “PLAY”. Patapult is a unique NC Mall game in that it takes actual skill to get the prizes you would like. The game only requires a mouse or trackpad, and there are two main controls: 1) Use your mouse to drag the Patamoose back and forth in order to aim it, and 2) Left click on the Patamoose and drag it towards the idol of your choice to launch it.

Patapult

Depending on which prize you are aiming for, you can aim and launch your Patamoose at Wood, Bronze, Silver, or Gold idols. These tiers provide different prizes, so check out the “Prizes” section of this article before playing!

For each Patapuff you use, you have three chances to get an idol, which will correspond with the areas on the map above. If you miss, you will generally end up with a Wood idol. Each of the three rounds should result in an idol, and you can decide if you want to keep it or try again after each time. If you get the idol you want on your first or second throw and decide to keep it, the game will end, and you would have to use another Patapuff to continue playing.

Unfortunately, the game takes some practice, and it might require quite a few Patapuffs before you get the tier you’d like, say Silver or Bronze. Be careful if you’re playing for the first time and only have a limited amount of Patapuffs!

REDEEMING Patapult PRIZES

Redeeming prizes requires the idols that you win during the game. The amount of idols you have will appear on the homepage of the game, and not in your inventory.

Patapult prizesAs you can see, I have 0 of each idol… 🙁

Each prize is worth a certain amount of idols in a certain tier. To collect a prize, simply click “REDEEM IDOLS” under your Acquired Idols count. A prize can only be collected if you have the exact idol that is required, meaning a Bronze-tier prize needs a Bronze idol to be redeemed; even if you have a Bronze Idol and want a Wood-tier prize, it won’t work.
