Neocash Trading is the process of trading neocash items that you have, for neocash items that another person has using the box system. Now, you may wonder why exactly we even have the need to trade Neocash in the first place, so allow me to explain. There are a set of items in the mall that I would almost think of as eternally buyable neocash items. This means they never leave the mall, they are always able to be bought, etc. Some examples of this might be items like the Green Neoboard Pen.

However, there are many items that are entirely seasonal or limited edition. This means they are only able to be bought in the neocash mall for a short time, or able to be gotten from a neocash related event for a short time. Once these items leave the mall, and are not able to be gained through purchase, they are considered retired. The best example of this is probably the monthly collectable that you can buy in the mall for 250 neocash each month. Once that month ends, the collectable cannot be bought anymore.
I was only buyable during Febuary of 2020!
Thus, if you wish to dress up your pets with items that are retired you will have to trade for them. But this should not be a cause for stress or alarm, as I’m going to try my best to help walk you through this process step by step.
Before we begin though, let’s talk about TNT’s rules concerning neocash…

Hello, and thank you! So it’s hard for me to give a general “yes this is scamming” or “no, it’s not” to a hypothetical like this, since it can depend on the situation, but if you ever really feel scammed or cheated, report it. However in a situation like this, unless person A was intentionally misled or cheated, we might not be able to do anything about it. We know there are general values associated with NC items, but everyone has the right to value an item in their own way based upon their feelings for it, and if you agree to a trade, you’re agreeing to that value. Person B taking advantage of someone who doesn’t know better is rude, but unfortunately often is not a scam.
TNT tends to stay out of issues with users being “shady” and taking advantage of those who don’t know values. However, just because TNT doesn’t freeze for it, doesn’t mean there aren’t repercussions. We’ll talk about that in a later section.
WHAT IS THE NEOCASH CHAT?
If you want the dictionary definition, it is the NC Mall board on the neoboard list (also known as the NCC, or Board 31). But if you want a more wholesome and real definition, here we go.
The Neocash Chat is a living and constantly changing community of traders who, through mutual trust, cooperation, support, respect, honesty and transparency use community-set values to trade neocash items with one another.
I really want to emphasize here that the neocash chat is a COMMUNITY. If you are coming to the board hoping to make a “quick buck” or “trade up” from members of the community, I would fully expect to not get far or at the very least be very disliked. If however, you can embrace the community and learn to abide by the expectations of it, you should be perfectly fine.
The community itself is known to be one of the most helpful and informative communities on the boards, so if you ever have a question about trading, just ask. Most people are willing to help you, and actually will reply with some enthusiasm about the subject!
I recommend when you first decide to venture onto the board to take a few hours and just lurk. See what you can pick up, what you notice. Click around different topics, and I for sure recommend the PSA for new/returning traders thread as a good place to stop and ask some questions.

HOW DO I MAKE A WISHLIST/TRADELIST?
Most people who trade neocash have to have a wishlist and a tradelist in order to trade. A wishlist, of course, being a list of items you want and a tradelist being a list of items you are willing to trade. When trading, people compare lists and see if they can come to an agreement.
There are a few different methods to create a wishlist and tradelist, so I’ll list them in order of popularity.
DRESS TO IMPRESS (IMPRESS.OPENNEO.NET)
Pros: Can import items from closet/sdb, can instantly compare to other lists with a push of a button, most used site on the entire NCC for wishlists, can export UFT/wishlist items to petpages.
Cons: Cannot list non-wearable items such as mystery capsules, neohome items, etc. You cannot assign “values” to items unlike Jellyneo.
Dress to Impress is a certified neopets fansite that is heavily used for neocash trading. It allows you to preview neocash items, and then put them into wishlists and tradelists.It has a very handy importing tool that will allow you to import items from your closets/safety deposit boxes, etc. I highly recommend it for ALL traders, particularly if you are new and beginning.

JELLYNEO’S WISHLISTS (ITEMS.JELLYNEO.NET)
Pros: Can help you find trades using the unique “find trade” feature, has a link to people who are seeking items and takes you directly to their list, allows you to list non-wearable NC items, can allow you to list cap values on items, can export lists of UFT/wishlist items to petpages.
Cons: Interface is not as user friendly/simple as DTI, more people prefer/use DTI to trade, removing items/keeping lists updated is harder, which list is UFT can be confusing, compare feature is clunky/hard to use.
My personal recommendation? Use DTI for wearable trades, and Jellyneo to list your non-wearable items up for trade. There are some traders who have openly admitted that if they see people post a jellyneo wishlist link, they automatically click out of a board because the lack of a decent/insant compare feature.
GALLERIES/PETPAGES
Pros: No linking offsite, decently easy to maintain.
Cons: No compare feature unlike fansite tools, petpages/galleries can spook people who are concerned about account security, can involve longer loading times, and images can break if the filters mess with them.
Some people do list tradelists on petpages and in galleries, however with DTI/JN on the case, these people are few and far between.
HOW DO I ORGANIZE MY WISHLIST/TRADELIST?
I wanted to cover this really quick to be able to help people who may wonder the best way to go about organizing their items using either dress to impress, jellyneo, or other methods. I’m going to explain some of the more common ways that people tend to organize lists, along with the pros/cons of each, and my own personal recommendations.
METHOD #1: LISTING WISHES/ITEMS UFT BY ACCOUNT
Pros: Traders can see exactly where to send items, and which items will go to which pets. You also will know which account holds which items.
Cons: If you are using DTI/JN, it can be hard to scroll through lists and not be able to sort items by their value easily.
Typically when organizing your tradelist like this, you will seperate your seeking and trading sections by account. Typically each header being the name of the account, and perhaps details about the boxes found on the account.
METHOD #2: LISTING WISHES/ITEMS UFT BY ITEM TYPE
Pros: Easy to find if you are a collector of certain items, very easy for organizing when first being created.
Cons: Hard to tell which account items are on, items are not organized by value easily.
This method involves there being a list for each item type. It’s typically used by those who have fewer items, or only trade from 1-2 accounts at most. In this case items are sorted by where they are zoned, such as background/foreground, clothing, hats/wigs, etc. With each one having its own section.
METHOD #3: LISTING ITEMS BY CAP VALUE
Pros: Easy to compare values when trading, makes trading more smooth.
Cons: Hard to tell what items are on what account, can be disheartening for traders who might want to haggle.
You’ll learn more about cap value later, but needless to say it is a method by which you an organize a tradelist. In this case, you have a different list where you sort items valued similarly to each other regardless of what account they are on. 🙂
METHOD #4: LISTING ITEMS BY PICKINESS
Pros: Lets people know exactly how hard it will be to pry an item from you. Very simple wishlist style that doesn’t require a lot of sections.
Cons: Doesn’t let people know where items are, people’s definitions of “hard to part with” may vary.
This method involves listing items based on how easy or hard they are to part with. Typically some of the sections you’d find would be sections like “Hard to part with”, “highlights”, “normal” or “2 for 1 cap” sections. These let people know where your values and priorities lie with items as far as attachment goes. However, people have varying definitions of “hard to part with” and may not always be as…lax with some items as you’d expect.
SO, WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?
I generally recommend that if you are a beginning trader, you keep it simple at first before you go crazy with organizing. I’d recommend either sorting by value or pickiness to start, (or even a hybrid of both!). A really good starter tradelist/wishlist might have sections laid out like this:
EXAMPLE TRADELIST
Closet – NEVER FOR TRADE– Put items in this section that you do not plan on trading ever, but want to keep on DTI for your records.
Keep this list private. (There is a setting for this on Dress to Impress!)Closet – MIGHT CONSIDER TRADING– Put items in this section that are closet items currently, but if someone really had a great offer, you might be tempted to let go of. Make it private as well so people can’t see it, but if you need to open it up for an item you like, you can always list it for trading.
Why keep closet sections hidden from the public? It’s a mix of saving face + saving time. When people list items in closets and make them public and never trade them, they can unintentionally communicate pridefulness, or arrogance.
If you wish to display your neocash items proudly, there are multiple premade petpages with a closet section, or you can put items in a gallery. When people see your lists, they are assuming all of the items on your list are UFT, and get very frustrated when there’s a section that seems to mock them.
It also saves YOU time as some people fail to read and may still send you mails bugging you about items you didn’t want to trade in the first place. Keeping your list private still allows you to see the items for your records (ex: your account gets stolen and you need to provide closet info for TNT), and also allows you to still use DTI/JN’s handy compare feature in case a trade can somehow still be worked out without the pressure of the other trader bugging you.
Hard to Part With– Use this for items you really like that might be hard to trade away without a really generous offer. Think about what items you have an attachment to, even if the value may not line up with it being hard to replace.
Normal Items– Put normal items you have no hesitation on trading here.
Sale Items/Buyables– Use this section for buyables that come from opening mystery caps, any items you might put on “sale” when gift box caps are in the mall, or any items you are desperate to get rid of.
EXAMPLE WISHLIST:
Priority– Use this section for items that you are heavily searching for or seeking RIGHT now. These items are items you might be willing to offer a bit more for.
Normal Items:– Put the normal items you are seeking here.
Low Priority/Casual Trades– These are items that you can wait on, and you might want to try to get when people are willing to discount them.

I want to provide this information right from the get-go, as I think it’s important to pour over some of these pages before you begin, if only to help you get even more of a grasp on things. I’ll talk more later about what these pages cover specifically, but I want the links to all be gathered in one place. 🙂

This section is going to be all about the information you 100% should know before you begin trading. Questions like how items get valued, how to get boxes, what in the world “caps” means, and what sort of items people want to trade for. I highly suggest keeping this section handy when you are beginning!
HOW ARE ITEMS VALUED?
Okay, so this is the part that’s going to be a bit complicated to explain, but I am going to do the best I can to help you understand the factors that effect item values. First and foremost, it needs to be said that all values are created and driven by the community. It’s not TNT, one powerful evil mastermind, or a robot setting these values. These values are created based off of community reported trade data.
Now let’s begin with talking about what factors play into value of neocash items, because there are quite a few of them:
POPULARITY
Popularity refers to the amount of users who like an item enough to want to trade for it, or use it in their customizations. The more “popular” an item is the higher it will trade. Oftentimes popular items are called “Populars” or “Pops” for short. A guide to popular items and a record of their trade values can be found at Grandpops.
RARITY
Rarity refers to how many of that item are in the trading pool. For example, items that are re-released frequently (ex: every year around the same time) are often low in value because there are plenty of those items in the trading pool. Items that have a lower drop rate from events, or items that are harder to obtain and aren’t re-released tend to shoot up in value simply because there are less of them on the market. A good example of this would be some of the earlier dyeworks items, as they were not dyed as much as most dyeworks are now, and thus tend to have higher values.
COST TO OBTAIN
This is somewhat of a special case here, but some items are buyable from the mall, but they are either (a) really expensive (LOOKIN’ AT YOU DOWN WITH NEOCASH FLAG!) or (b) are only part of superpack/event as a LE and thus you have to buy the whole superpack/set of items in order to get the item. (This one goes out to the rosy cheeks facepaint and all of those collector’s bonus items) Because of this, some items can be a little more expensive in value.
SEASONAL SWINGS
Certain items become more popular the closer they are to being “in season”. For example, you can expect that starting in late October, christmas/holiday themed items will slowly start to raise in popularity and demand. This trend will die off shortly after christmas once the holiday has passed. Some holidays/season you should probably be keeping an eye out for:
* Christmas/Winter
* Valentines
* Spring
* Summer
* Altador Cup
* Fall
* Halloween
TRENDS
Like any community, there are trends that come and go on the neocash chat, which often can cause somewhat unexplained inflations of items. Trends are different than popularity because they are a sudden increase or spike in the popularity of an item without any other factors being affected. Trends can last anywhere from a few days, to a few months depending on how long the Neocash Chat decides to hold onto the fad.
COLLECTORS
Those who collect certain neocash items may value them slightly higher, or be after them more intensely than others. For example, I collect thief items in my gallery. If someone had a thief related neocash item up for trade, I’d be more likely to trade for it because I need it for my gallery, and might be more inclined to part with higher items for it.
Some people collect mystery capsules, or other neocash items, and thus are more likely to part with those specific and audience-limited items.
PERSONAL TASTE
Personal taste can fall under popularity in some ways, but in other ways can also run contour to popularity. For example, as someone who owns a ton of ixi, one thing that constantly bugs me is how low cut some dresses are on the ixi species.
How am I supposed to go out looking like THIS?
Because I don’t like how low cut some dresses are, and ixi are the primary spieces I own, this affects MY demand for certain dresses by dropping it. Dresses can be limited edition, very popular, lovely dresses on other pets, but if they don’t fit my ixi, there’s no reason for me to trade for it, or hold onto it.
Personal taste can effect how hard to trade certain items are for some users. If someone really likes an item, regardless of its value, they will be hesitant to trade it.
Needless to say, all of these factors come together to inform values. People report their values to those who run the value guides such as Devin (/~Waka), Chips (/~Sovenn & /~Pythonics) and Autumn (/~Priscilla) on boards created by those users. These users then compile the data onto their petpages, and share the results with the community.
Next up, let’s talk about the “currency” of the value system…called “Caps”.
WHAT ARE “CAPS”?
Caps are the currency of the neocash chat, short for Mystery Capsules. It refers to a capsule that is 200 NC, and is the primary method by which items are valued. Most of the time the mystery capsules that people most often desire are “Gift Box Mystery Capsules”, however any other mystery capsule or item that is 200 NC in the mall can also be substituted depending on the whims of the trader.
One cap = 200 NC worth of items, capsules, or anything else from the mall. This originates from the fact that mystery capsules are most often used as currency.
When reading a value guide, the numbers next to an item refer to the value of that item in caps. Most often they are a range, for example ~1-2, or ~4-5, which means that it can be any value within that range depending on who is trading. This gives some wiggle room for those who are trying to negotiate with each other.
The primary value guide that most people use is found on /~Waka, and is pretty comprehensive. But it’s important that all traders REPORT THEIR TRADES so that the value guide is updated. There are some supplementary guides that help to fill in the gaps, such as Grandpops (/~Sovenn) that focuses on the values of populars, and /~Priscilla, which is the community value check board page.
Guilty Admission: Something I am working harder on doing myself is writing down trades when I make them so that I can report them when I see a /~Waka board up. I often will use note taking apps on my computer to try to help me remember, but like many, I struggle to report my trades. Don’t beat yourself up if it doesn’t happen, but don’t give up either. Remember, each trade reported helps the community!
WHAT IF I CANNOT FIND THE VALUE FOR MY ITEM?
Because there are literally thousands of neocash items, it is impossible to always have a value for each and every one of them. Some items get traded so rarely that finding enough trade data to even create a value is next to impossible. So when you look up an item and don’t find a value next to it, what do you do?
Uh, actually, uh no. Don’t panic. There’s methods to figure out values. We’re going to talk about them right now. 🙂
METHOD #1: MAKE A VALUE CHECK BOARD (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)
A value check (or VC) board is a board where you are asking people what they have traded recently for a certain item, or have seen an item trade for recently. It is one of the best ways to keep yourself safe while trading.
IF YOU ARE EVER UNSURE WHILE TRADING,
MAKE A VALUE CHECK BOARD.
I put this in a big giant font because it is important. Value check boards can save you from a lot of issues while trading.
Too scared to make your own value check board? Easy peasy answer. Check the Community Value Check Board and its linked petpage to inquire about the item you are needing, and see if others have spotted any trades for it.
METHOD #2: CHECK OTHER GUIDES/RESOURCES THAT LIST TRADES.
There are some older value guides such as /~Clara, along with other resources that list current trades such as Grandpops that you can take a look at to try to get some trade data. Some of the data may not be the most up-to-date, but it can give you a starting number for negotiating with the other trader and finding a deal you both find agreeable.
Retired capsules are often hard to value because many of them are not listed on/~Waka. A current “rule of thumb” some traders have been using is to add 1 cap in value for each year that /~Clara hasn’t been updated. So if your capsule was worth 3-4 caps in 2015, you’d add +1 cap for each year since 2015.

HOW DO I GET MORE BOXES?
If you are going to trade neocash, you are going to need these little boogers:
I will be your best friend, and your worst enemy.
These basic gift boxes are required for sending any item to another account, and are often in very short supply when you trade neocash items often. However, there is hope, as there are methods for getting boxes!
METHOD #1 (MOST COMMON/USED) – GIFT BOX CAPSULES
Gift Box Mystery Capsules (or GBC) are mystery capsules that when opened, will give you anywhere from 2 to 5 gift boxes, and an item from the mall worth 150 NC. The minimum and most common result is to get two boxes, but you can get up to five (the 5th one being a special limited edition box). They normally go on sale towards the end of the month each month, as they are not in the mall full time.
HISTORY LESSON: When gift box mystery capsules were first introduced, they only gave one box minimum. Some of those capsules are still around today, so be careful. The main way you can tell the difference is that the new capsules which give a minimum of two, have a cube shape, while the old box caps had a more tall rectangular shape.
Some important things to note about gift box capsules:
1) They can be traded just like any other item, as long as you have a box.
2) They have lots of different varieties/names, but they still all give the same amount of boxes (some people even collect the different types of gift box caps).
3) They normally go for 200 NC in the mall, except for special occasions***
I know, you’re wonering about those “special occasions” huh? Well, one such instance was the christmas season of 2019, where TNT dropped the price of gift box caps to 150 NC for the holiday season. But the primary time most people will mention is the Black Friday GBC Sale. An indepth guide is in that particular section, but in summary, TNT drops the price of GBCs by 50% off, and then 25% off in the mall during that particular weekend. There is also a spring cleaning GBC sale event that goes on during the spring that is similar.
METHOD #2: BUYING MORE NEOCASH CARDS
As stated earlier, when you redeem a neocash card, you get a box for every $5 that is spent. So a $20 card can net you four boxes, a $25 card can net you five. However, not everyone has the ability to just drop that much moeny on a neocash card in order to get boxes. A cheaper method will be outlined below…
METHOD #3: TRUDY’S SURPRISE
Trudy’s Surprise is a daily that allows you to collect a certain amount of neopoints per day on your main account, but in addition trudy will sometimes give basic gift boxes as a prize. It is important to try to remember to do trudys EVERY DAY as you never know when you can possibly get yourself a gift box!
REMEMBER: Trudy’s gives you NEOPOINTS, so it can ONLY be spun on your MAIN ACCOUNT.
WHAT DO PEOPLE WANT TO TRADE FOR?
Okay, so this section is more about building up your tradelist with things people want. Which can be a very hard process when you’re new to trading. So let’s talk about some real advice concerning this area.
Let’s start by talking about the main areas of items that people want to trade for:
WISHES
Wishes refer in this case to items that are clothing for people’s specific pets. That is their intent when they want to trade for these items. These items can vary because everyone has different tastes and levels of demand for the items they are looking for.
Best advice to building this section of tradelists up? Take part in neocash events and games. There’s at least 3 events a year that involve buying packs that give you items each day during the event (altador cup, halloween, christmas event). These can be a great way to build up a list of items in a short amount of time. Plus normally during those events there are 1-2 items bound to be popular and desired.
Playing the neocash games such as wonderclaw, shenanigifts, corridor of chance, etc can also help build up your list too. And since a lot of those games have rotating prizes, you aren’t stuck with the same items all year long.
FODDER/FILLER ITEMS
These items are items that can almost be used similar to currency, and include gift box caps, dyeworks potions, neocash fortune cookies, game packs, and neoboard pens. These are items that you can use to fill in a trade as needed if you for some reason or another don’t have an exact list of items people want that matches up in value.
Don’t entirely fill your tradelist with these, as it’s important to get some of othe other groups in too, as not everyone is going to be looking for fodder/filler items.
POPULARS
Populars or “pops” are items that a large group of people on the Neocash Chat find pretty/desirable/etc. However just because something is popular doesn’t always mean it’s expensive. There’s lots of lower end items that are also popular, which can help with building up your trade list.
I’ve found that a good method is to get fodder/filler items like those mentioned above, trading some of them for lower end populars, and then trading a mix of lower end populars + some filler items for higher/rarer populars can work quite well. Just be careful to keep track of values as some popular items have major price fluxes. To keep track of them, I recommend the site Grandpops to help.
COLLECTORS ITEMS
Some people collect certain neocash items for their gallery collections. Some people have collections of mystery capsules, others have other collections but need certain things that are neocash to complete them. Common things to collect are mystery capsules, backgrounds, collectors items, etc. But sometimes people’s collections can be less broad and more specific. For example, I collect thief related items. So some items I’d be after would be things like Dual Wield Daggers and Nabile’s Collectors Veil.
See? I have a whole section of my wishlist with items that go with my gallery theme!
So trying to obtain items that would go great in a gallery might be worth it if you’re trying to build up your tradelist.
So the question you might have now is…How the heck do I get some of these things and build up my tradelist? Well…
TRADELIST BUILDING METHODS
The following are some suggestions to help you with building a tradelist. You can use as many/few as you wish.
* Take part in neocash events, such as haunted mansion, stocking stufftacular, and the AC event. They give you one item a day for a number of days and can help build up your list quickly. They also tend to have at least 1-2 items that will be popular.
* Don’t hesitate to play wonderclaw, or ther similar games. They tend to switch prize pools every few months and when the old prizes retire, they can be more in demand.
* Open up those free goodie bags, not just on your main, but on your sides too! They can be traded, and collectable!
* Speaking of collectable, go for the collectable item each month from the mall, and if you have premium, you’ll also get a premium collectable that can help pad your trade list as well!
* When Gift Box Caps are in the mall, get yourself a stash to trade. Also stock up on lab, archive, and faerie quest cookies too! They’re great for fodder!
WHAT DO THE ACRONYMNS I KEEP SEEING MEAN?
Because boards and titles on numbers of characters, the neocash trading community has lots of acronyms and terms that they use to keep things short. However, if you’re new to trading, it can seem very very discouraging and confusing to try to read them. There’s a really great guide that I’m going to link that you can reference for some of the more obscure terms:
But I’m going to try to share some of the main terms you will absolutely need to know and understand before trading. If you want the more in depth terms, again, I suggest you look at the guide above, as it keeps updated very frequently.
GENERAL TRADING LINGO
Wishlist = List of items you want, usually found on a petpage, gallery, or on a fansite.
Tradelist = List of items you have up for trade, usually found on a petpage, gallery, or on a fansite.
UFT = Up for trade.
NCC = Neocash Chat
Caps = The currency of the neocash chat, one cap = 200 NC, usually (but not ALWAYS) representing a gift box mystery capsule.
GBC = Gift Box Mystery Capsule
2:1 = A type of “sale” where someone offers two of their items for one gift box cap, archive cookie, or other item.
Cap Sale = A sale where people offer items (often discounted) for gift box caps or other caps.
HTF = Hard to Find (not easy to find on tradelists)
ETF = Easy to Find (abundant on tradelists)
VC = Value Check (a board or inquiry where a value of an item is checked with multiple traders)

Box = Gift Box (used for sending items)
JN/DTI = Jellyneo, Dress to Impress (usually indicating the tradelist found on either)
Pop = Short for popular, meaning a popular NC item.

Custom = A certain amount of neocash that is able to be spent in the mall
Buyable = Something that is currently able to be bought from the mall
Retired = Something that has retired from the mall
RR = Re-release, an item that was retired, but is now released again either through an event, capsule, or some other situation.
BG/FG = Background, Foreground
OG = Original, normally referring to an item that has
dyeworks.
PC = Premium Collectable
WC = Wonderclaw

LE = Limited Edition, normally an item that drops from a capsule or similar item that is rarer than the rest.
FF = Future Fashions, special area of the mall for those who spend 10,000 NC the month prior.
